Show A- Banff Mountain Film Festival, San Diego and Encinitas Showings

These films will be shown on March 3rd and 6th in San Diego and March 20th in Encinitas

Film Synopsis: Four top freeskiers and a World Champion drone pilot are dropped at Chatter Creek, BC for one week. Their instructions: charge as hard as you can everyday.

Film Synopsis: Thabang Madiba somehow found his way into the world of trail running and in the last few years has become everyone’s favourite in the South African trail scene.

A NORDIC SKATER (2018, Lithuania, 5 minutes) Filmmaker: Paulius Neverbickas
Film Synopsis: The story of a man who uses every sense he has to travel on thin ice while Nordic skating in the Oslo region of Norway. He tells the story of how the little known sport of Nordic skating came to play a big part in his life.

HOME (TOUR EDIT) (2019, Canada, 47 minutes) Filmmaker: Jen Randall (Light Shed Pictures), Sarah Outen
Film Synopsis: Between 2011 and 2015 UK adventurer Sarah Outen traversed the globe by bike, kayak and rowing boat, travelling over 32,000 km by human power alone. The solo trip took its toll, and a violent storm on the Pacific takes Sarah to the physical and mental brink.

THE MOTIVATOR (2019, USA, 5 minutes) Filmmaker: Rockhouse Motion – Aaron Hitchins
Film Synopsis: Filmmaker Aaron Hitchins turns his camera on the person who has motivated him to lead a life connected to the outdoors: his mother, Maureen.

LHOTSE (2019, USA, 23 minutes) Filmmaker: Dutch Simpson, Rob Wassmer, Kaki Or (Field Day Studios) Film Synopsis: It’s not always what we achieve that defines us, rather it is why we achieve such things that creates clarity in our existence. In 2018, Hilaree Nelson and Jim Morrison completed the first ski descent of the 27,940-foot Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain in the world. This is their story.

 

CAMEL FINDS WATER (2019, US, 9 minutes) Filmmaker: Ian Durkin and Trevor Gordon
Film Synopsis: Trevor found the hull of an abandoned fishing boat in a field. He brought it home and built it back to a sea-worthy state over the course of a summer. Then, he took it on its maiden voyage to British Columbia in search of waves.

REEL ROCK 13: UP TO SPEED (2018, USA, 20 minutes) Filmmaker: Peter Mortimer, Zachary Barr, Nick Rosen (Sender Films)
Film Synopsis: When climbing was announced as part of the 2020 Olympics, it was a monumental occasion for the sport. But many climbers were shocked to learn that one of three combined events required to compete for a medal is… speed climbing.

Film Synopsis: In his latest film Danny MacAskill takes on some child care the only way he knows how... by taking them for a wee bike ride around Scotland!

Film Synopsis: Every day, skier Richard Permin falls into his mundane morning routine. Right after getting out of bed, he clicks on his skis and rides down the snowcovered rooftops of Avoriaz.

OUT ON A LIMB (2019, USA, 22 minutes) Filmmaker: Jordan Manley, Diana Brucculieri, Narrows Media Film Synopsis: Engineer Kai Lin teams up with climber Craig DeMartino to design a badass prosthetic foot, which if they succeed won’t just level the playing field, but will dish up, if not superpowers, then a real sense of empowerment. Which is almost the same thing.

SIBLINGS (2019, Canada, 3 minutes) Filmmakers: Mike Hopkins, Scott Carlson
Film Synopsis: A short coming of age film that celebrates childhood and the relationship between siblings.

INTO THE CANYON (TOUR EDIT) (2019, USA, 45 minutes) Filmmaker: Pete McBride, Amanda Pollak (Insignia Films)
Film Synopsis: Pete McBride and Kevin Fedarko tell a story of extreme physical hardship where the bonds of friendship are stretched and the timeless beauty of the Grand Canyon becomes meditation and ultimately a cautionary tale for our complex relationship with the natural world.

ELI (2019, USA, 6 minutes) Filmmaker: Patagonia Films, Monika McClure
Film Synopsis: As a rancher growing up in the rugged northeast corner of the Navajo Nation with no electricity or running water, Eli Neztsosie learned through years of work what it meant to rely on discipline and endurance. Now he relies on those same skills, running long distances.

MYRTLE SIMPSON: A LIFE ON ICE (TOUR EDIT) (2019, US, 25 minutes) Filmmaker: Leigh Anne Sides & Andrew Cahill
Film Synopsis: Myrtle Simpson - trailblazer, pioneer, adventurer, mountain climber, polar explorer, writer, and mother. From Spitzbergen to Greenland, from the North Pole to the Highlands of Scotland, from New Zealand to Peru, Myrtle blazed her own trail. She experienced places most people only dream about, all while writing 13 books, collecting specimens for museum botanical collections and raising four children.

Film Synopsis: In a time when it can feel like you need to fly to the opposite side of the globe to find adventure and challenge, Surfer Dan proves that with dedication, grit and a little creativity you might already have all you need outside you own backdoor.

 

LIFE OF PIE (2019, USA, 12 minutes) Filmmaker: Felt Soul Media - Ben Knight, Travis Rummel
Film Synopsis: When Jen Zeuner and Anne Keller moved to the tiny, conservative high desert town of Fruita, Colorado almost twenty years ago, it was not on the map as far as mountain biking was concerned and they were on the fringe and a bit ostracized. Now they’re at the very heart and soul of the community.

Film Synopsis: From inside his yurt deep within the heart of the Taiga, an elder of the Dukhas tribe muses about the significance of life and death in the largest forest on Earth. He is the last of the great reindeer herders of the Taiga.

THE LONG RIVER HOME (2019, USA, 20 minutes) Filmmaker: Timmy O'Neill, Big Cedar Media - Seth Dahl Film Synopsis: US veterans who were injured in war come together for another mission as they guide blind Navy veteran, Lonnie Bedwell, on a 14 day river trip in the Grand Canyon.
